Sowing season is almost at an end and many people will have already done a great deal of harvesting but there are still quite a few things you could sow in August to provide you with a good supply of food over the winter period. Winter roscoff cauliflower, spring cabbage, as well as hardy kales are ideal and if you have a little space left in the beds try sowing some fast growing radishes.
Top tip for August is to not water your tomatoes too much as they will put all their energy into producing more green leaves, whereas they should be putting all their energy into growing and ripening fruit. Once you have harvested a crop and a bed is free plant some fast growing green manures such as phacelia or mustard to help enrich your soil.
