This heirloom variety from 1850 is a large, high-yielding, purple-flowered plant. As it is very tolerant of cool soil conditions this variety is a good one for early planting. It produces a bounty of long, tender, round, stringless dark green beans. As well as enjoying the young pods, the black, shiny bean seeds make great soup.
