Water in the Landscape: natural flood control, habitat creation and ecofriendly filtration – Saturday March 26th – 10am – 4:30pm

Ireland is a wet country. We have rivers, lakes, streams, farm drains, bogs, fens, marshes, wet woodlands such as Alder carr and willow scrub, estuaries, a wonderfully diverse and beautiful coastline amid the Atlantic ocean. There isn’t a house in the country that does not sit within a river or stream catchment. How we live impacts directly on water quality, and on all of the wildlife that depends on the water bodies around us. How we manage the landscape similarly impacts on nature, on climate, on wildlife. How can we best explore and direct our management practices to best support nature so that nature can best support us now and into the future? How can we rewild the drains in our farms? How can we create wetland oases or ponds in our gardens? Do we need wolves, bison or beavers to rewild the landscape or can we work with what we already have around us? These are some of the questions that we will explore and discuss in this one-day workshop.
