{"id":17423,"date":"2021-12-01T09:45:13","date_gmt":"2021-12-01T09:45:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/irishseedsavers.ie\/shop\/?p=17423"},"modified":"2021-12-01T09:47:36","modified_gmt":"2021-12-01T09:47:36","slug":"the-hares-corner-update","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/irishseedsavers.ie\/shop\/2021\/12\/01\/the-hares-corner-update\/","title":{"rendered":"The Hare&#8217;s Corner Update"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Monday 23<sup>rd<\/sup>\u00a0of August, Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Senator Pippa Hackett, joined members of Burrenbeo Trust, local farmers, representatives of Clare County Council\u00a0and Irish Seed Savers to launch The Hare\u2019s Corner, a new biodiversity initiative for Co. Clare.<\/p>\n<p>Inspired by the term \u2018The Hare\u2019s Corner\u2019, an old farming expression for an awkward section of a field which wasn\u2019t intensively farmed and so was \u2018left to nature\u2019, this project aims to help Clare landowners create pocket-sized habitats such as a mini-woodland, a pond, or an orchard on their land, that will be good for both wildlife and farming.<\/p>\n<p>As you read this in November, several ponds are being dug across County Clare to enhance biodiversity and it is expected that 27 new ponds will be created before the end of this year as part of The Hare&#8217;s Corner pilot project. An online training session on Pond Design and Construction with Wetlands expert F\u00e9idhlim Harty was held for all pond applicants and you can view a recording of it on the Burrenbeo Trust YouTube channel <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=gBoMkOISAOA\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The unexpectedly mild weather in November has meant the postponement of the distribution of bare-root Irish heritage apple trees to the successful Hare&#8217;s Corner orchard applicants.
