Turnip Apple is a distinctive Irish heritage apple, named for its unusually large fruit, which can reach an impressive size. DNA testing has shown it to be the same variety as the Welsh apple known as Gelli Aur, adding an interesting link to the wider heritage of traditional Celtic apple varieties.

The apples have a crisp, juicy texture with a refreshing balance of sweetness and sharpness, along with a good depth of flavour. Their versatility makes them useful for both the kitchen and the orchard, having traditionally been valued in Ireland for cooking as well as cider making.

A rewarding choice for anyone interested in heritage fruit trees, Turnip Apple combines an unusual appearance with practical versatility. The fruit is generally ready to harvest from early October through November, extending the enjoyment of the autumn apple season.
