Celebrate National Biodiversity Week at Irish Seed Savers
National Biodiversity Week is a time to recognise and celebrate Ireland’s incredible biodiversity while raising awareness about the importance of protecting it. At Irish Seed Savers, we are marking the occasion with a series of free biodiversity-themed talks on Saturday, May 24th, and we invite you to join us!
Protecting Ireland’s Natural Heritage
Our mission at Irish Seed Savers goes beyond conserving heritage food crops—we are also dedicated to protecting the diverse ecosystems that surround us. Our 20-acre farm is a thriving habitat for wildlife, including woodland, wetland, and meadow grassland. From badgers, foxes, pine martens, hares, stoats, and hedgehogs to the majestic buzzards, hen harriers, and bats that hunt overhead, our site is alive with biodiversity.
The woodland near our offices is home to two nesting pairs of jays, while the adjacent wetland provides shelter for snipe, woodcock, herons, ducks, and frogs. Every creature plays a role in maintaining a healthy ecosystem, and we are excited to share more about how we can all help support biodiversity.
