Seán Ronayne – Bioacoustician & Founder of Irish Wildlife Sounds
Seán Ronayne is an ornithologist and bioacoustician whose passion for birdsong and the natural world has taken him to every corner of Ireland. As the founder of Irish Wildlife Sounds, Seán has embarked on a first-of-its-kind mission to record the sounds of every bird species in Ireland, creating an archive of Irish birdsong. His work blends science, art, and conservation, offering listeners a unique way to connect with nature through sound.
With a background in zoology and ecology, Seán creatively employs audio technology to study and preserve the acoustic landscapes of Ireland’s wild places. His dawn chorus recordings have been featured in national media and nature documentaries, asking us to listen more closely to the forgotten soundscape of our environment.
In this Dawn Chorus and Talk event, Seán will guide us through the magical world of birdsong at first light, sharing stories from the field, playing rare recordings, and deepening our appreciation for the sonic beauty of the natural world.
Our mission at Irish Seed Savers goes beyond conserving heritage food crops—we are also dedicated to protecting the diverse ecosystems that surround us. Our 20-acre farm is a thriving habitat for wildlife, including woodland, wetland, and meadow grassland. From badgers, foxes, pine martens, hares, stoats, and hedgehogs to the majestic buzzards, hen harriers, and bats that hunt overhead, our site is alive with biodiversity.
