The Irish Seed Savers Community Seed Exchange is one of our biggest events of the year where we invite individuals, gardening and community groups to come together and share / swop seeds. This event forms a large part of our ethos here at Irish Seed Savers, bringing communities together to promote biodiversity, share stories and to help protect rare heirloom varieties for future generations. By sharing seeds we are also building a more resilient food system.

Due to current events we are not going to have the Community Seed Exchange event as planned for the first Sunday in March, but don’t worry – we are going to change the format and still make it happen by post. It’s simple. Those of you that have surplus or unwanted seeds can post them to us and we will share them. Each participant will receive a random surprise selection of seed packs in the post in return for a donation of €5.

Please note we can only accept seeds that are labelled with Crop, Variety, Harvest Date and Grower Name.

We especially like seeds that you have collected from your own garden and would love for you to include the seeds story, for example, a seed first given to you by your grandmother.

By sharing locally grown seeds that are adapted to local conditions helps to increase diversity and keeps the old heirloom varieties available.

To be included in the online Community Seed Exchange please visit here to make your donation  and complete the form with your name, address, email address and phone number.

Closing date is the 8th of March 2021, please post your seeds to us before then.

We will be sending seeds back out to all participants by Friday March 12th – just in time for spring!

*Please note the Online Community Seed Exchange is open to Ireland only.

* Please be aware that this event is a seed swap, open to exchange seeds among our seed community. The seeds are not Irish Seed Savers seeds. We cannot guarantee organic certification or germination rates. We advise to sow heavy.
