(ACRES) Agri-Climate Rural Environment Scheme is Ireland’s new agri-environment climate scheme under Ireland’s CAP Strategic Plan. This new €1.5 billion flagship agri-environment scheme is a farmer-friendly scheme to help address biodiversity decline while delivering an income support for up to 50,000 farm families in Ireland.
Irish Seed Savers are a registered supplier of Irish Heritage Fruit Trees for the ‘Planting a Traditional Orchard’ initiative promoted under the scheme. With over 30 years’ experience in conserving Ireland’s heritage apple trees, we offer expert advice and guidance and the most extensive range of Irish heritage apple tree varieties to choose from.
ACRES Scheme Planting a Traditional Orchard Objective: To support biodiversity and help ensure the survival of traditional Irish apple varieties.
While apple trees have been grown in Ireland for many centuries, the native genetic pool has been significantly altered to incorporate a number of modern varieties. The ‘Planting a Traditional Orchard’ initiative endeavours to conserve the authenticity of traditional apple tree varieties while also sustaining their heritage, by only growing trees that were once common to Irish soils.

Ordering and Collection
Please note all bareroot ACRES Scheme Irish heritage apple trees are required to be ordered in advance via the Irish Seed Savers website.
Orders for collection are required to be ordered two working days in advance of collection.
Irish Seed Savers welcome all ACRES farmers to visit our 20 acre organic farm in Scariff, Co. Clare, home to the National Irish Heritage Apple Tree Collection to view these magnificent fruit trees in their natural setting.
