Description
Lyon leek is a hardy heritage leek known for its long, thick stems and mild flavour. The stems can reach approximately 30–50cm in length.
The variety has been associated with the name Prizetaker in several seed references including RHS records. Lyon has a long history and was cultivated in the 19th century. Historical sources describe Lyon as a larger, slower-growing leek. It was traditionally suited to later cropping and blanching.
The variety develops substantial stems with a mild flavour. Its size and appearance have also made it suitable for exhibition. Lyon is described as cold tolerant and suitable for cooler growing conditions. It can be grown for autumn and later-season harvests.
