Description
Hugh Ermen’s tomato is named after horticulturist Hugh Ermen. Hugh Ermen was known as one of the UK’s leading apple breeders. He also worked with the Brogdale apple collection in Kent. Ermen was also interested in breeding tomatoes. Hugh Ermen’s is a pure-line tomato bred by Hugh Ermen.
The plants have a tidy growth habit and are grown as a semi-cordon. The vines require plenty of support as they grow. They produce small to medium-sized, bright red tomatoes. The fruit is round, firm and medium-sized. The tomatoes have a balanced flavour combining sweetness and acidity.
The variety is an early fruiter, producing ripe tomatoes relatively early. We have also recorded fruit continuing to ripen into late autumn.
