Last Thursday, we were delighted to welcome five members of the ECOFUEL™ team to Irish Seed Savers for a tour of our gardens and conservation work, and an opportunity to exchange ideas, share experiences and make meaningful connections. Read about it here.
ECOFUEL is an Irish company specialising in sustainably sourced wood fuels, supplying kiln-dried firewood, wood briquettes and other natural fuel products. With premises in Galway and Dublin, the company places a strong emphasis on responsible sourcing, innovation and sustainability.
Among our visitors was ECOFUEL founder and CEO Janis Vitols, who established the company in 2014 with a second-hand van and a simple idea:
“I started ECOFUEL™ in 2014 with a second-hand van and a simple idea: firewood could be better, cleaner, drier, and more honest. Back then, most of what was on the market was wet logs and coal. I knew there had to be a better way.”
Today, ECOFUEL sources its products from sustainably managed forests, supported by FSC® certification. As a member of 1% for the Planet, the company also contributes to reforestation and biodiversity initiatives, reflecting its commitment to protecting the natural resources on which its business depends.
Finding Common Ground
While our organisations work in different fields, we share an appreciation for the natural world and the importance of caring for its resources.
At Irish Seed Savers, our work is rooted in conserving Ireland’s seed and food crop heritage, protecting biodiversity and ensuring that our living heritage continues to thrive for future generations. ECOFUEL brings a different perspective through its commitment to responsible sourcing, sustainable practices and innovation.
Throughout the visit, there was a wonderful spirit of curiosity, openness and exchange. The ECOFUEL team showed genuine interest in our conservation work, while also sharing insights into their own journey, creative processes and approach to sustainability.
These conversations highlighted the value of bringing different perspectives together, sharing knowledge and discovering common ground. They reminded us that meaningful connections can grow from a shared commitment to caring for the natural world, even when our approaches and experiences are very different.
It was a rewarding and inspiring exchange, and we are grateful to Janis and the entire ECOFUEL team for their enthusiasm, generosity and genuine appreciation of our work.
We look forward to staying connected!
