The Buan Onion, a treasure of Ireland’s agricultural heritage, was brought back from the brink of extinction by Irish Seed Savers in 1997. Its seed was repatriated from the Vavilov Gene Bank in Russia, where it had been sent for safekeeping by Irish onion enthusiast Barnie Crombie, who bred and trialled onions in Ireland until the 1980’s. Named for the Irish word Buan meaning, ‘lasting’ or ‘enduring’. Photographed onsite on our organic farm in Co. Clare.
Consciously designed and responsibly printed by TheFACTORY.ie on 100% recycled & carbon balanced paper with eco-inks, using self-generated green energy.
