Originally a Ukrainian heirloom and known as the ‘Chickpea of the North’, This pea has been grown prolifically in the cooler, northern parts of the USA as a chickpea substitute. Tall plants produce prolific amounts of medium-sized pods throughout the season. Eat the juicy sweet peas when young or wait until they have dried to a blonde colour and hardened in their shells to be harvested as a soup pea. Great in stews or blended as a humous substitute.
